A teacher who refused to be named or go on air tells KCTV 5 News she’ll quit teaching if she’s ever ordered to carry a gun.

KCTV 5 tracked down terrified teachers after reading a Facebook post in which one teacher, who chose to remain anonymous, write, “I’m sad a lot when I know how vigilant I have to be now. It’s scary sometimes…I love my kids, and I will protect them. I’m just not ready for combat. The day I’m ordered to carry a gun may be my last day.”

Some politicians have recommended allowing teachers to carry concealed guns. No one is suggesting that become a mandatory requirement, but that’s not stopping KCTV 5 from reporting that bit of hyperbole as a possibility.

A Kansas City public school union representative told the TV station teachers are now required to do so much more than educate.

“We’ve become everything, anymore. I mean, we are social workers. We are everything. I mean, they are the ones that are protecting our children when something horrible like this does happen,” Andrea Flinders, KCPS Teachers Union President told the television crew.

Left unsaid? If parents are now trusting teachers to do everything, including social work and raising their children, why shouldn’t they be trusted to carry a gun?
