Rep. Stephanie Clayton, an Overland Park Republican, does not like the idea of “campus carry” and does not exactly respect those of her legislative colleagues who do.
Clayton particularly does not like House Bill 2220. The proposed bill would prevent colleges and universities from implementing any administrative action that would interfere with the constitutional carry rights of students over 21.
As Clayton told the Kansas City Star, “A bill like that is very reflective of, again, the anti-university, anti-intellectualism that you see from a certain subset of legislators.”
Certain public buildings, hospitals most notably, can continue to ban guns after the July 1 implementation date, but only if they offer compensatory public protection with metal detectors and armed security guards.
