The chairman of the Democratic county committee and a candidate for the 3rd District seat in Jackson County, Paul Wrabec of Sugar Creek has come under intense fire for opposing sex and race preferences. The nerve! How Republican of him!
As reported in the Columbia Tribune in August 2016, Wrabec’s company put in a bid with the State of Missouri to operate a license office in Columbia. Wrabec lost the bid by 4.94 points to Elle Management LLC of O’Fallon. Wrabec protested the award.
Despite the EEOC charade that all hiring, firing and contracting decisions be made “without attention to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, veteran or disability status,” the state put its thumb on the scale, awarding ten free points to minority and female-owned businesses
Elle is French for “she.” Elle plays the female card right up front on the company’s website: “Elle Management is a women based enterprise owned and operated by Terri Harris.” No fool, Harris understands preferences and how they work.
Having marked her territory, Harris makes the following, wonderfully tautological claim, “We have been in business since the founding of our company in 2009.” Okay, sure, that inspires confidence.
Wrabec lost his challenge, and his protest remained a forgotten footnote until this past weekend’s Democratic Party Truman Gala at which Wrabec’s Scarlet B for “bigotry” was revealed for the world to see. Tony’s Kansas City published this unsourced broadside that, if nothing else, shows how eager Democrats have become to impute bigotry to others, even to their own. Some highlights:
“In 2016, Wrabec lost a bid for a state license office (a political patronage plumb for decades) to a WOMAN/MINORITY bidder, and rather than just accept that he lost to a better bidder, he chose instead to DOUBLE DOWN ON BIGOTRY and used it as an opportunity to officially file a protest and publicly advocate AGAINST PREFERENCES FOR WOMEN OR MINORITY OWNED BUSINESSES!”
“At first blush, his comments seem bizarre and straight out of the 1950’s, but NOT SO FAST! The 3rd district, which he is running for, has a LONG HISTORY of electing so-called OLD-SCHOOL SOUTHERN DEMOCRATS and his public commentary serves as a form of RACIST DOG-WHISTLE that may quietly play well with many ‘conservative’ voters in his district.”
“HOW WILL DEMOCRATS RESPOND at the dinner tonight? WILL THEY DO ANYTHING AT ALL? OR SIMPLY CHOSE TO IGNORE SOMETHING THAT MAKES EVERYONE UNCOMFORTABLE, rather than stand up for what the party believes? IF THIS IS WHAT PAUL WRABEC WOULD SAY TO A PAPER ON THE RECORD, WHAT DO YOU THINK HE SAYS OR THINKS IN PRIVATE?”
For the record, of course, Terri Harris is white. God help Wrabec if she were not.
