The Wichita Innovative Schools and Educators (WISE) will hold its second annual K-12 Innovation Expo Saturday, February 22nd in Wichita.
The event is free of charge and is focused on raising awareness of the many school options available to families outside of public schools. Some 20 innovative schools have registered as vendors, and the event will offer families these opportunities:
- Meet the leaders and decision-makers of innovative microschools
- Learn about costs and scholarships
- Connect with other families seeking change
- Find the right fit for your child

According to its website, WISE confronts the issues confounding today’s public schools, such as over-crowded classrooms (an average of 21-26 students) rigid schedules that ignore individual learners, standardized testing, and limited emphasis on character, and practical skills by offering families:
- Your child is one of just 10-15 students
- Teachers know your family by name
- Learning plans adapt to your child’s interests and pace
- Character development is as important as academics
- Schedules work for your family, not against it

WISE founder and President Dalena Wallace previews the variety the Expo will offer:
“The K-12 Innovative Education Expo aims to raise awareness of the diverse and innovative educational options available in our area. We want families to know they have choices beyond traditional public schools; including part-time, micro, nature-based, hybrid, faith-based, secular, classical, and unschooling options.
“There’s something for everyone and the K-12 innovative Education Expo is a great opportunity for families to shop the marketplace and find something that fits their particular child’s needs.”
The Expo will begin at 10:00 am in the Learning Lab Wichita, 703 E. Douglas Ave, Suite 250.
