Those citizens newly concerned about children being wrenched from their mothers might find the National Right to Life Convention a useful place to spark their passion and put it to good use.
The convention begins Thursday, June 28, at the Sheraton Hotel in Overland Park. The convention will feature more than 70 workshops and five general sessions. Speakers include Kansas Gov. Jeff Colyer, Kansas City, Kansas, Archbishop Joseph Naumann, award-winning author Wesley Smith, abortion survivors Dan Compton and Melissa Ohden, author and activist Father Frank Pavone, and author Sue Ellen Browder.
Browder is the author of the book, Subverted: How I Helped the Sexual Revolution Hijack the Women’s Movement. As a writer for Cosmo in the 1970’s, Browder was part of the team that infused the sexual revolution into the women’s movement. At the beginning, they were separate and sometimes hostile entities.
Archbishop Naumann will keynote the convention’s Prayer Breakfast on Friday, June 29. The Archbishop has long been an outspoken advocate for life. Tickets are $40 and can be purchased in advance.
In addition to Gov. Colyer, two other Kansas lawmakers are on the convention’s agenda. Sen. Molly Baumgardner and her husband, Brian, have been active with pro-life and sanctity of life issues, campaigns, and candidates for more than 30 years. They have been outspoken advocates of Kansans for Life, Right to Life, and the Vitae Society since the 1980s.
Rep. Susan Humphries of Wichita chaired the founding board of Compassionate Care Crisis Pregnancy Center in Plainview, Texas in 1992. She and her husband Cary have continued their support of CCCPC, which has operated continuously for 25 years.
A National Teens for Life Convention runs simultaneously at the Sheraton with multiple workshops, a poster contest, and a general session.
Hosting the event is Kansans for Life. The organization’s inimitable president, Mary Kay Culp, will give a special welcome at the Convention’s opening general session on Thursday morning.
The National Right to Life Convention is open to the public. Early registration for the Convention ends Tuesday, but one can register at the door as well.
