James O’Keefe’s Project Veritas hit the Claire McCaskill campaign today with a second undercover video, this one on abortion, and it is even more damning than the first.
In this one, McCaskill staffer Nicholas Starost tells an undercover journalist, “Planned Parenthood will never donate money to Claire even though she’s very pro-choice because they don’t want to ostracize those pro-life democrats that might not vote for her, if there’s Planned Parenthood funding her.”
Starost likely meant “alienate” not “ostracize,” but the point is clear. This is a point he reiterates later in the video. The journalist asks, “So, they just, they just funnel [the money] through Emily’s List?” Says Starost, “Probably. They go through other means to get us that money.”
Starost clarified that Planned Parenthood funneled money to the campaign “through like different organizations.” He added that voters would not see through the subterfuge “unless they go like deep, deep, deep down into a campaign, like finance, which most people just do not.”
When asked if the campaign’s goal was to get the money without attaching Planned Parenthood’s name to the contribution, Starost said, “Yup… It’s f***ing beautiful… It’s great when it works for us and not against us.”
To corroborate Starost’s claims, the Project Veritas journalist turned to senior staffer Grace Richardson. “I’m still trying to wrap my head around that, that . . . thing Nick [Starost] was talking about the other day, that Planned Parenthood won’t donate to us,” he asked Richardson.
“I think it’s the same with Obama not endorsing any red state Democrats,” Richardson answered. “It’s so like . . . It’s so that that the Democrat isn’t coming off as too leftist establishment.”
“But we’re still going to support abortion, right?” asked the journalist.
“Yes. Yeah, 100 percent,” said Richardon. “It’s more of like [Planned Parenthood] not… They go through other means to support and give money.”
This strategy is an open secret at McCaskill headquarters. Staffer Darcy Becker confirmed that Planned Parenthood avoids making direct contributions for one reason: “They know it’s a tough state to win for a Democrat, and they don’t want to hurt her chances of winning it by donating money.”
As to why McCaskill must conceal her progressive leanings, staffer Melissa Balke volunteered, “because she would completely isolate the moderate Republicans.” Again, Balke likely meant “alienate” when she said “isolate.”
The McCaskill staffers may be weak on vocabulary, but they are strong on loyalty to a fully deceptive cause, namely McCaskill’s “100 percent” support of abortion.
