The Kansas City Star broke a story on a $1 billion, no-bid contract, but Tony’s Kansas City, a local blog, suggested it had broken the story. Yesterday, the Sentinel erroneously reported that Tony’s KC is responsible for breaking the story, but time stamps of Star postings revealed otherwise.
Time stamps reveal the Star posted its story and editorial about a contract between the Kansas City, Missouri, and Burns & McDonnell at 7 p.m. on May 11, and city officials held a press conference announcing the plans a day later. The Tony’s KC blog post about the same project was posted at 7:11 p.m. on May 11. The post shared the mayor’s press conference announcement, but few details about the actual plan.
The Sentinel regrets the error.
