Brownback tweeted shortly after the Trump announcement “Religious freedom is the first freedom, the choice of what you do with your own soul. I am honored to serve such an important cause.”
Clayton Barker, executive director of the Kansas GOP, said the governor is a perfect fit for the new role.

Several media outlets, including the Wichita Eagle, announced that Brownback tendered his resignation and that Trump appointed Brownback to the role. However, it is a nomination process, and as of yet, the Governor hasn’t announced his formal acceptance of the nomination or his resignation as Kansas Governor.
