Given the weaponry involved, this last incident may be another sign of an escalating Mexican drug war being played out in the streets of Kansas City.

A thug bearing an AK-47 ambushed a Kansas City grandmother and her friend when they honored a stop sign at the intersection of Garner and Bales in Northeast Kansas City and carjacked their Ford F-150.

As reported in the Sentinel last Friday, Northeast KC witnessed two kidnappings in the last few weeks and several shootings. In the one case, Christian Escutia, 20, was abducted from his home at gunpoint in broad daylight. A bag of marijuana was found at the scene. On April 7, police found Escutia’s body in a Kansas City, Kansas street. Jackson County prosecutors have charged 24-year-old Juan D. Osorio and Marco A. Sosa-Perea, 21, with the crime.

In this case, the carjacker, Jose Gomez, also fled to Kansas City, Kansas where police apprehended him after a chase across I-70. He has been charged by Jackson County prosecutors with first-degree robbery, armed criminal action and resisting arrest.

As a source told Tony’s Kansas City last week, “What we’re seeing now is some of the really brutal violence among drug traffickers manifesting in the metro. It’s just a matter of time until we start seeing local decapitations like other parts of the American Southwest have already witnessed.”

“His eyes were so cold, like blacked out cold and solid,” the grandma told Fox4kc of the AK-47 bearing attacker, “and when I saw he didn’t have any remorse in his eyes, I thought we were gonna die. I told my friend, get out, get out, get out and after we got out, he took off in the truck.”

“He deserves to be punished for what he did to us,” the woman continued. “I just thank my Lord Jesus that he didn’t kill neither one of us and that I’m still here to be with my three kids and my two grandsons.”
