As reported on Missourinet, Republican state rep Mike Moon from the Springfield area wants to create a display representing the history of abortion in the state museum at the Capitol in Jefferson City.

More provocatively, Moon wants the exhibit be placed near the history of slavery exhibit, underlining the relationship between these two great deviations from the American promise.

“The constitution stated that they would only be three-fifths of a person” said Moon of slaves.  “Many people say an unborn developing human baby is not a person until he or she takes her first breath.”

In an equally provocative move, Moon has called his proposal the “Never Again Act,” an allusion to the Holocaust.  “If you’d go back to Germany,” said the seemingly fearless Moon, “the German people probably would have thought, or at least Third Reich would have thought that gas chambers were a legal procedure.  That doesn’t make it right.”

Not surprisingly, Moon’s proposal evoked howls of outrage from House Democrats. “I just find this whole connecting any of this to slavery or holocaust, which nothing compares to what happened in the holocaust,” said Stacey Newman of Richmond Heights.  “I have holocaust survivors in my family.  To do that, I just feel is just inflammatory.  It is disgusting beyond belief.”

Moon has also proposed a “personhood bill” that calls for a constitutional amendment declaring that life begins at conception. That bill has already passed out of committee and is headed for a floor vote.
